How the US health system gets in the way of entrepreneurship

Here’s an article on Lifehacker that, in passing, sums up how the lack of a decent free health service in the US seems to get in the way of the leap to self employment. This is interesting as self-employment and entrepreneurship are at the heart of the American dream, but apparantly not that well supported by the state system. My mother was telling me about a cab driver she met in the US who had a thriving cab business that could have been full time, but who works in a hotel as well, just for the health benefits that come with that. Now, you can argue all you like about unemployment benefit and what that does for someone’s get up and go, but it seems to me that a system without decent health benefits for all is putting up barriers to risk-taking in business.
