[spoiler alert – don’t read this if you’ve got an overwhelming desire to know nothing of the plot of Fingersmith]
The last episode of Fingersmith was on TV last night and I was gripped! Not only by the refreshing sight of lesbian melodrama on TV (rather than just amongst my friends), but by the twists and turns of the story. How brilliant to have three hours of prime time TV dedicated to a story in which the central characters are lesbian, but that’s not the point of the story. Well, it’s sorta the point, but the children swapped at birth, the horrors of the madhouse, the pornography collection, the stabbings, the hangings, the… oh, you get the picture… all combined to make it a ripping story too. Glad to see they got a cheesy last scene in as well – what was it? “I was writing this pornography with you in mind”. Not a chat up line I’ve ever heard, but whatever turns you on. Fantastico!
