I capture the castle
Posted on June 29, 2003 ~ Filed Under Culture
I read I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith today. It’s recently been made into a film, which I’ve not seen. The book is a good, light read. It’s the story of a girl and her family living in the country in the early half of the last century. The girl’s father wrote one great [...]
Arrogance

Well, the BBC and the government are in some huge fight, and they’ve decided they want to play it out on-air. Oh, lucky, lucky us. Andrew Marr has summarised the row on the BBC’s website if you’ve managed to miss it all.
The thing that strikes me, though, is the arrogance of both sides. The [...]

I was just walking up to work and passed a block of flats. There was a rather ordinary looking cat in the window ignoring me and I thought "Oooh, what a lovely cat. It might be nice to have a cat as a pet."
Doomed, doomed! Fancying women is fine, but the cat thing is scary.
“Woo, Africa. Wowee.”

Check out MediaGuardian.co.uk for a fanastic quote from Cameron of Big Brother. He’s going to Africa as part of his ‘challenge’ and on hearing the news said “Woo, Africa. Wowee. That’s phenomenal. I can’t believe it.” Not often you get Wowee on national tv, is it?
A concept that should have worked
Posted on June 22, 2003 ~ Filed Under Web ideas
www.sportsfix.co.uk is an idea that really should be working. A site designed for women in London Boroughs to find out about women’s sports. So simple, so obvious, and seemingly not quite making the impact it should be. Since I’ve been excited by skateboarding I’ve been amazed at how many sports sites are out there with [...]
Ouch, my head
Posted on June 21, 2003 ~ Filed Under Diary
I fell off my skateboard today and banged my head really hard on the ground. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet. I reckon I would have been knocked out otherwise, which is pretty scary. I think I may invest in a helmet before I do any more practicing.
I also used my own skateboarding at [...]
US Senate

On a travel programme on Radio 4 just now a guest said that only 12% of the US Senate actually own passorts.
Just felt the need to tell everyone, as I think this is rather shocking.

Been a bit of a crazy week all in all. I am currently the whole of the communications and conference centre department where I work. The work that would normally be covered by 4 people is being done by me and a temp. I am currently Acting Head of Communications, and Website and Publications Manager [...]
Just call me Jamima

The gas bill hilarity continues. This morning I recieved two further letters from London Electricity. They’ve stopped calling me James, which is nice, but now I’m Jamima. And the name change seems to have prompted them to think I am setting up a new Direct Debit. Bizarre.
But the really interesting bit was in the [...]
Yikes! Gas bill madness
Posted on June 17, 2003 ~ Filed Under Diary
I just had a great London Electricity moment. I returned home this evening to two letters from London Electricity regarding my gas supply from them. To start with, for some reason they seem to have decided my name is James. Letters are addressed to Miss James Kingsley. huh? I wasn’t always James. At one point, [...]
