You may have noticed by the recent flurry of pictures on the site, and the fantastic sneaky goldfish, that I’ve got a new toy. Oh yes, it rocks. I went down to Jessops a few weeks ago and came away significantly poorer, but with the fantastic Pentax Optio S. Not only is it tiny, but it takes high res images with very decent picture quality and it does 30 second movies. It’s intuitive to use, really light-weight, has lots of brilliant features and, of course, it’s lovely and shiny :-)
The only downside is the lack of case. There’s meant to be a leather case to go with it, but Jessops can’t get hold of it, so I don’t think it actually exists yet. The camera is advertised in the US for being small enough to fit in an Altoids tin, so my cunning plan was to buy a tin of Altoids to keep my camera safe (not as odd as it sounds – lots of other users appear to have done the same thing if online postings are anything to go by). Unfortunately, it appears that Altoids are made in the UK but not sold here. So, the camera’s living in a variety of cases at the moment, and has already got a few scratches. I’m convincing myself, though, that little scratches are just cool.
